About UsPrairie Fire Soapworks is located in Harvey, North Dakota. The business originated out of my farm house near Garrison, North Dakota. A friend of mine asked me why I did not sell my creations and make them available to others who might have the same needs as me. I had not thought about it before, but it made sense. If I needed products that were kinder to my skin, more then likely others had that same need or wish as well. I have found since opening my business up in 2000 that many people have found our natural products to be just what they were looking for. I first was introduced to soap making by my mother when I was a young girl. Growing up on a farm, near Chaseley, North Dakota,we had access to tallow and lard and we would use both to make our soaps. Back then though, you did not have the ability to know exactly how the soap was going to turn out, but now you do. Now that I am making my own soaps, though, I have opted to use vegetable oils instead. They are easier to come by and aren't drying to the skin as pure animal fats can be. The soap making process had always intrigued me as a child and I would have to say that is why I am doing it again, as well as the fact that I prefer bars of soap that I know what the list of ingredients are and also what they mean. Prairie Fire Soapworks is a business that deals in herbal soaps and other natural body care products. None of the soaps contain detergents or synthetic preservatives and all of our products are free of petroleum products and animal fats. Unlike the so called "soaps" that are commerically made. Commercially made "soaps" are not actually soaps at all, but harsh detergents and petroleum products. The detergents strip the oils out of the skin removing natural moisturizing body oils along with the soils. This is why so many people have skin that feels dry and itchy after bathing with a commerial "soap". A commercially made bar of "soap" also has the natural occuring glycerin removed from it, unlike the homemade soaps which contain glycerin in the finished product. Glycerin is a natural substance which holds moisture in the skin to help you retain your skin hold on to its natural moisture. You will notice after using a homemade soap regularly there is little to no need to apply as much lotion and creams after bathing. The products come both scented and unscented as well as colored and uncolored. They are scented only with pure, aromatherapy grade, essential oils and NO fragrance oils. The colors too are natural, coming exclusively from such things as leaves, roots, seeds, bark and flowers from herbs and spices. Many people have asked me why I only use natural ingredients in my products and my automatic response has always been that they are better for the skin. I have been using and working with herbs for nearly 15 years and essential oils for about 11 years now and I know what kind of benefits they can lend toward my products. I also do it this way so more people will have the chance to "Enjoy the Herbal Touch". I found out along the way that other people need the same things I did, a soap that was milder and moisturizing to the skin. The majority soaps are made from a base of olive, coconut, palm and sunflower oils. A number of people have told me about their allergic reactions to fragrance oils and chemical dyes and colorants, which is why none are used in my products. My purpose is to create a bar of soap and other natural products that a lot of different people can enjoy. Treat yourself to some natural products, your skin will thank you for it. At the present time I have about sixteen different types of soap, same bases, different scents, colors and nutrients as well as body butters, lip balms, solid perfumes, milk soaps, goat milk lotions, lotion bars, bath fizzies, body sprays, shave bars, salves and bath salts. As the business grows so does our product line. We will soon be introducing a new salve and ointment. Thanks for letting me take some of your time to introduce you to Prairie Fire Soapworks and myself. Please enjoy yourself browsing the site to see what we have for you.
